Since 2007, I am holding a seminar on screen-based typography at the Dual University Baden-Württemberg with second year media design students.
The design seminar “Screen Typography” is dealing with the specific requirements and standards of designing with type in digital media. This is including in-depth knowledge of fundamental technical basics that led to the development of specially designed screen fonts, but also the dynamic and interactive orchestration of typography in multimedia and motion design applications.
This year’s seminar was focusing on three main subjects (”pixels”, “web typography” and “kinetic type”, that would be followed by two design briefs, the students were due to work on over the course of the seminar.
